Salt Painting

Today was quite the rainy day.  We took advantage of time indoors by working on more elaborate art activities.  The children enjoyed creating salt paintings during small group time.  I was so impressed with everyone's persistence and patience throughout the project.  Each child took a turn creating their alt painting by completing the following steps: applying school glue to black paper (this took lots of hand strength), shaking table salt onto the wet glue, and using an eyedropper (or paintbrush) to apply liquid watercolors to the salt. Creating multi-step projects like this allows the children to work on sequencing, with is a pre-math skill. You can use all the same supplies, but if you don't do it in the correct order, it won't work.

We opted to play in the Big Muscle Room this morning during the storm.  We missed having our time on the playground, but had a great time getting our wiggles out in a larger space.  On the way back to the classroom, the children thought it was hilarious to crawl through the hallway.  Little did they know that Ms. Rose and Ms. Theresa were thrilled to see them focusing their sillies in a productive way!
