Your littles have been busy builders! We began our exploration of towers the last few days and the Olive class has been up to the challenge.
We have used the recycled materials you provided along with other loose parts to build and stack towers as tall as we can go. Building like this allows for our students to work on skills like hand-eye coordination and spacial reasoning. These towers have also been a great way for us to work on turn taking and our constructive play skills.
We've also enjoyed building with traditional blocks during small groups. These little wooden blocks are a bit smooth and slick. It takes some good fine motor practice to be able to build a tower with these.
In the Art Atelier today, we made a beautiful city skyline at sunset. Ms. Rose taped off a skyline with masking tape in order to have a negative space painting. Friends loved pouring and dumping the paint so much that our tape would not come off of our mural. Instead, Ms. Rose painted the skyline back on with black paint after everyone was satisfied with our sunset! This was a great sensory exploration of our towers theme! Friends chose a variety of tools to add to our collaborative piece like: paint brushes, sponges, loofahs, fly swatters, potato mashers, and rollers. Everyone enjoyed experimenting with how the different tools provided a different effect with the paint.
